Yikes! And if there's any truth to the asteroid 99942 Apophis heading towrds Earth in 2029 and 2036, then I'm making my escape to any of the 166 moons in our solar system. As long as I know how to build a Dynamo, I'll be protected from cosmic rays. I'm also bringing a bunch of furry creatures with me to make CO2 and water vapor to bio-form the atmosphere. Hasta la vista, baby!Ok true or false an asteroid caused the extinction of dinosaurs by directly hitting them?
The theory isn't that the dinosaurs were struck by falling rocks. The theory is that a comet or asteroid struck the Earth, and caused a large cloud of dust to cover most of the planet for months. This would have caused less sunlight to reach the surface of the planet, which would cause plants to die off. More importantly, it would have also lowered the temperature of the planet (no, not an ice age) Both of these things would have caused problems for the larger dinosaurs. Less plants would mean less food for the plant-eaters, and fewer plant-eating dinosaurs would mean less food for the meat-eaters.
However it's also theorized that this is when mammals started their climb to dominate the planet.
Dinosaurs didn't die out completely though. You see their distant descendants everyday as they fly through the sky, and chances are, you'll be eating one for dinner tonight.Ok true or false an asteroid caused the extinction of dinosaurs by directly hitting them?
First of all..the thoery says it was a comet...and it is just that, a thoery, they say that when ';the comet'; hit the earth, it caused huge clouds of smoke and dust and ash and other things to stay in the atmosphere for months, this caused the plants to die which caused the herbivores to die which in turn caused the carnivores to die from starvation as they ate themselves into extiction...
However... this could also have happened if there was a long period of high volcanic activity...
Unless some of them got in the way when it hit...then that's false.
An asteroid of emense size hit the Earth..and caused so much debris to rise..that it blocked out the sunlight for a very long time...which is what killed the dinosaurs.....so says the theory anyway.
maybe, but most of the dinosaurs died when the meteor emits large amounts of dust. It blocks the sunlight and the plants died. earthquakes and volcanic activity with the dusts maybe triggered an ice age which the dinosaurs did not survived
