Why don't you look up the Vietnam War or Mai Lai yourself and actually learn instead of taking the easy way and asking on Yahoo answers?True or false? during the my lai massacre in march 1968 the Vietcong killed the inhabitants of a village?
The Americal div was ordered into the area on search and destroy. The area was infested with cong and NVA which used the hide behind locals routine similar to the terrorist. Lt Calley scapegoat, was punished for the massacre after he made protest about entering the village initially. Those issuing the orders went unpunished. I believe Calley was later exonerated. From memory of the situation. Should not have happened.
False. On March 16, 1968 the angry and frustrated men of Charlie Company, 11th Brigade, Americal Division entered the Vietnamese village of My Lai. ';This is what you've been waiting for -- search and destroy -- and you've got it,'; said their superior officers. A short time later the killing began. When news of the atrocities surfaced, it sent shockwaves through the U.S. political establishment, the military's chain of command, and an already divided American public.
No, a platoon of the Americal division did it. In their defense they had been fighting months and hit from ambush months had seen their own killed in interesting ways and My Lai was considered a Cong village. the Americal was one of the hard luck divisions in 'Nam. It had more than its share of draftees and discontent. It was not an elite unit like the 101st or the 1st cav.....
